History of Mysore
Mysore is the second biggest city in the State of Karnataka. It lies 130 km's from the State Headquarters, Bangalore. It is the erstwhile capital of the Mysore Maharajas, who ruled Mysore State from this royal city. It is now the headquarters of Mysore District with a population of over 700,000. The chief language of the people, as in the State of Karnataka, is Kannada and original Kannada is spoken in this part of the area. It covers an area of more than 40 sq.km. and is administered by the Mysore City Corporation. Situated 763 meters above sea level surrounded by hill ranges from north to south, it is known as the 'Garden City' and the 'City of Palaces'. The famous Chamundi Hill, which is mythologically associated with the name of the city, is to its southeast.
The word Mysore is a corrupted version of "mysooru", which is derived from the word "mahishur" or "Mahishasurana Ooru", which means the town of Mahishasura in Kannada. Mysore has been associated with the Puranic story found in the Devi Bhagavatha(Hindu holy Sriptures). According to the story in the Devi Purana, Mysore was ruled by the demon King Mahishasura. Mahishasura was a buffalo-headed monster. In response to the prayer by the Gods and Goddesses to save them from the demon, Goddess Parvathi, reincarnated as Chamundeshwari and killed the monster on top of the Chamundi hill near Mysore. Hence the hill and the city have the names Chamundi Hill and Mysore respectively. It is said that after killing the monster the Goddess stayed on top of the hill, where she is worshipped with great devotion to this day. The famous 10 daylong Dasara of Mysore is in honour of the Goddess Chamundeshwari and is a celebration of this victory of good over evil.
To this day Mysore is a very important spiritual place in Karnataka and is well respected all over India we believe that God has placed us here with a purpose to breakdown the altars of evil and set up the altar of God.As we prevail in Karnataka we belive that we shall be able to penetrate the rest of Karnataka and India. Please join us as we pray for this city of Mysore and lets believe God that only His kingdom shall be established.

About Destiny Centre International, Mysore

Destiny Centre International,Mysore is the product of God's providential hand.Sensing the Lord's calling into full time ministry, the church was born in the year 2000.
Destiny Center International,Mysore is a dynamic, multi-cultural church, full of life. We come together corporately for celebration services Sunday morning and function in smaller groups called cells during the week. This maintains the advantage of a close-knit fellowship no matter how large we grow. It also helps us not to confine the church to the pulpit. We believe God's people should be responsible and accountable, so all members are encouraged to be involved. Children ages 4-12 meet separately during the adult service, they learn solid Biblical principles.
At Destiny Centre, God has given us a divine mandate to make disciples, to build and to equip them so that they may realize their full potential in Christ. This will enable them to discover their God-given purpose in life, thereby enabling them to get fully involved in the work of ministry. We believe every believer is both a priest and a minister, and by using their unique, God-given gifts and talents, they can cause an impact locally and globally in the expansion of God's Kingdom.
Desitiny Centre is a Church with strong empahsis on worship,a relavant word for today's society and a deep committment to both prayer and missions.Together we shine His light into our communities and the world beyond by evangelistic outreaches as well as through prayer and intercession. We also partner with like-minded Churches and organizations in our endeavour to touch India for Christ. We welcome you to be part of us. Please uphold us in your prayers and support us in any other way the Lord leads you to.
We hope you will be blessed, challenged and greatly motivated in your own walk with the Lord as you fellowship with us at Destiny Centre. You are welcome to fellowship with us whenever you are in Mysore.

Word from the Pastor,

Greetings dear saints,

We are so excited about 2009 we believe that this is the year "God's Extra-ordinary Favour".Last year was a very tough year for us as a church due to the sudden persecution that arose against the church in Karnataka. We did not have a regular venue for about 6 months. We had to 'tour' the city moving from one venue to another and because of this we lost some of our members. All the same we praise God because if it were not for His grace we would not have made it this far.

As we go into 2009 we are persuaded that it will be a better year for us because God has gone before us.
